Wilco, a farmer-owned agricultural cooperative from Mt. Angel, Oregon, has agreed to purchase Denson Feed and Seed Store, Inc. of Corvallis, Oregon and will relocate the business to a new Wilco store that opens on July 15, 2014
Timing was perfect for both Denson’s and Wilco. Third generation owners Casey and Shelley Denson were considering lifestyle changes and at the same time Wilco was building a new 20,000 square foot farm store in Corvallis. The timing provided an opportunity for both parties.
Sam Bugarsky, Wilco COO, characterized the agreement by saying, “This is a great opportunity for Wilco to meet and serve new customers in Corvallis while opening up options for the Denson family to do things they have been thinking about for some time.”
The plan has the new Wilco store opening July 15th coinciding with Denson’s last day open as a feed and seed store July 14th. Wilco will then hold a two week clearance event in the Denson Feed & Seed store building starting July 17th.
Most of Denson’s employees have agreed to work for Wilco and Wilco will continue to sell many of the niche feed and seed products Denson’s customers are accustom to buying. The new Wilco store will be located next to Applebee’s and the Carmike movie theatre at 1905 NE Four Acre Place.
TJ Colson will manage the new Wilco store. As a current Corvallis resident and graduate of OSU, he is anxious to manage a store in Corvallis and excited about the Denson’s opportunity. When asked about the purchase TJ said, “Anyone involved in agriculture within Corvallis knows Denson’s Feed. I’m excited to work with the new team members from Denson’s and continue to serve a community that has had a positive impact throughout my life.”
Casey Denson said, “Our family has served the Corvallis community for over 84 years and we are very grateful to the community for their support. The timing coincides perfectly with my desire to spend more quality time with my family. We feel that Wilco will carry-on the wonderful customer service that this community deserves.”
